EDUCATION
“The people have a right to the privilege of education, and it is the State’s duty to guard and maintain that right” (N.C. Const. art. I, § 15).
I am a 4th generation product of North Carolina’s Public Schools. In the 1920s, my Great-Grandmother attended Halls Piney Grove in Sampson County and later enrolled at Cullowhee Teachers College (now Western Carolina). My Grandmother attended Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC Greensboro) and went on to teach high school chemistry for over 30 years in Eastern North Carolina. My mother graduated from Hobbton High School in Sampson County and earned her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985.
